Hero: (three connected thoughts)

An idol can inspire you to do something exceptional or creative, yet a hero can teach what it means to choose the good through self-sacrifice. It is sort of a complex myth of identity. For me I found myself emulating a myriad of heroes and idols my entire life. From Ken Griffey Jr.  to Maynard James Keenan. I find myself seeking the virtues of others in actions, appearance and artistic replication. This body of work aims to access the time warp between ancient and present collapsing the traditional narratives of the past and the structure of idol.

The Number 12 is a binding element of human myth and ritual, found in nearly every major culture, both historical and contemporary. The Nature of these mystical happenings is unclear and yet undeniable. Be it the pull of the planet or the simple mathematical structure the number is unavoidable. Through Discipline and repetition, I am searching for serendipitous experiences but also hoping for the openness to allow in something new. Through repetition, and ritual I have looked to challenge my own artistic practice and perceptions. In search of the Miraculous, perhaps we may find the Mystic Truths.

From the first moment, we gather a word to form idea; we place all things and people we encounter into a quantifiable box. Thus limiting the potential complexity and rich narrative investigation that they might be holding. I have spent most of my life searching for a connection to the past, the present and the ever-changing experiential landscape. In my practice, I have investigated base emotional elements that drive our need for connection to those things we cannot name. In subversion of linear narrative, I have looked to fold time and ritual into a circular space. A space by which history is malleable and future can be misdirected.
